Some folks have asked me about the avatars — colorful squares that accompany each post — that popped up on the blog a couple of months back. They’re meant to serve as a visual signature for posters, a way to identify yourself to the blogging community. Right now our webhost randomly assigns avatars to each poster in the form of an artistic design, some of which I admit aren’t the most flattering. But anyone logged in with a user ID and password can upload any image they want to serve as their avatar. You’ll need to get a wordpress account, which is free and can be done here: http://wordpress.com/signup/
When you login with that account (login is underneath the archives links) you’ll be able to change the avatar. Just go to the “my account” menu at the top left and click “edit profile” from the drop down menu. You’ll see the option there of uploading your own photo.
I picked a photo of myself to accompany my comments, but it doesn’t have to be a self portrait. Just keep it clean.
Some like the idea of not being known who they are. Why? I don’t know.
Thanks !
