GREAT PAPER CANT WAIT EACH DAY THANKS SO MUCH
Like the paper too.
Great paper…..mucho better!!! Thanks!!!
I enjoy the paper and participating in the blogs. I would however, like to see new subjects added sooner.
This past Friday my husband and I attended to MAHS football game. We decided to eat at The Dairy Center prior to going to the game. What a fun experience! The hot dogs were fabulous! The atmosphere was filled with students in and out the door, families adorned with the local team colors eating at nearby booths. Each person greeting the other in the usual “I just might know you” way. Although we don’t have kids, we’ve attended most of the home games this season.
With the many wonderful local sandwich shops and restaurants, the enthusiasm of the local sports fans, we may have started a tradition. Dinner on the town and a good live football game! What a nice place to live.
Regarding the editorial about Kate Appler:
1. Come on, she’s a smart lady who dedicates all kinds of time to serving the students in Mount Airy, and she does a lot of work behind the scenes that The Messenger is probably unaware of
2. Don’t you think your diction (dropped a grenade?) is a little harsh?
3. The comments sounded more personal than editorial.
I expect better from you guys.
I agree Judy! Thank you so much for addressing this. I just read that editorial about 45 minutes ago and was shocked. It most certainly does come across as personal. I have known Kate for some time…long enough to know she has a true passion for the city school system and its students. I find the comments strongly unnecessary. What’s more, why isn’t the name of the staff person who wrote this editorial mentioned? Each time a Letter to the Editor is posted I see the name of the person whom sent it. I think the same rules should apply. You could have disagreed with what she said, without being so disagreeable. Your paper owes her an apology.

Ditto! The Messenger crossed the Rubicon on this one! Its well know who the “homers” for the county are at the paper… have some journalistic integrity. Anytime something comes up that steps on the county’s toes whether it be water.. schools etc the bias lies just beneath the surface.. especially on the editorial page. I’ve got news for you.. everything the county does isn’t as grand as the invention of 7 UP!
Don’t doubt that your city readers see through the veil either.
Hang in their Kate.. NEVER be afraid to speak the truth!
ps: and I agree with initialing the editorial page.. Rebel doesnt write all of ‘em
Tomorrow there’s another meeting regarding the possibility of having a skateboard park here in Mount Airy. I think this would be an excellent opportunity and outlet for our youth. If interested, come on out tomorrow (1-27-08) at the First Presbyterian Church at 2:00.
You want tourism? A skakeboard park and competition would bring in some, perhaps turn this into a national thing. If you are going to spend money and make this town stand for something besides an absent movie star, then do it and do it right. There are some kids around here who are already competing nationally. Perhaps someone should contact the Collins kid who advertises for skateboards and tee-shirts, etc. In fact, I believe his father started the first skateboard (inside) place in Mount Airy until the hogs seemed to find a way to get rid of it. I am not clear on the particulars, but it seems they were doing a good business and it was keeping kids off the streets to a degree. Hope someone sees the potential of this and maybe even save a crumb or two for those who wanted to pioneer this. blueb
