In the North Ward it’s a battle of two newcomers, Dean Brown and Robert Livengood. Who has the better ideas, the better vision?
From candidate’s remarks at the forum two weeks ago, Brown seems too quick to talk about “appointing committees” to study problems. Ii think we have had all the committees we need and most of them have not resolved any problems. We elect our commissioners to act, not appoint committees; and i think Livengood would be quicker to do just that.
Having said that, we’ll be better off with either because that will mean one less of the group that’s been running the city (into the ground) for the past 8 years.
Livengood seemed somewhat unprepared during the forum (although sincere), but Mr. Brown was so prepared it was kinda ridiculous. He’s got a plan for everything. If you don’t believe it, just ask him and he’ll show you one of his booklets. (BTW: I think these are “top secret” until he gets elected, because he’s never brought these ideas up in a public forum, commissioner’s meeting, letter to the editor, etc. before.)
After observing both and knowing Mr. Brown for many years, I have to favor Livengood in this race. Mr. Brown is just too flaky for my taste.
(Dean, Just keep writing those children’s books and stay out of politics.)
I favor Brown. At least he thought some ideas out, and “Concerned” must have fallen asleep for a brief time during the forum, because he did mention an idea or two that evening. You stated yourself that “Livengood seemed somewhat unprepared during the forum…” Then why would you prefer to vote for someone who knew the questions ahead of time and still couldn’t address them with confidence? At least the man (Brown) has a plan!
Wow. Three responses. I expected, well, I dont know what expected because I have never been the topic of a blog before. I dont know whether to be honored simply because I was mentioned or upset as this topic (Brown vs. Livengood) did not garner more discusion in the Surry Messenger Blog-o-sphere. I hope that the same does not happen on Nov 6th. I hope that people remember that Dean and I ARE in the race for the North Ward seat.
All I ask is for people to get out and vote. This is much more important than responding to a blog.
And….. for the bloggers that said I seemed unprepared. I can assure you that I did my homework. (I did not write out my answers ahead of time and simply read them – like others may have?) During the forum, I LISTENED to my fellow candadates, compared their answers with my notes, and answered the questions trying, not to just say what the others had said before me. I like to use my ears first and then my mouth – it could come in handy as a city commissioner.
I for one am going on record for not only supporting Mr. Livengood for commissioner, but for voting for him. While I agree that Mr. Brown was so prepared he appeared to, “have everything wrote for him beforehand.” Mr. Livengood’s responses were honest and from his heart. While there are many other people who question Mr. Livengood’s heart and whether or not he is truly for the city of Mount Airy. He IS there to look out for the people of the city and to serve them/ He will do the best job that he is able to ensure the citizens of this wonderful city are served by someone who will do his best to bring this city forward, create jobs, and make this a wonderful place to not only live, but call home.
While I am not able to say what Mr. Brown’s interest are for running, I am sure that Mr. Livengood will do his best for each and every person in this great city, to make himself available to them so they will know just how important they are to this city as a whole.
I dont think that anyone could have said it better though Mr. Livengood. Its up to each and every citizen of this city to make his or her voice heard. Get out and vote. Whether it is at the library at the early voting, or on tuesday. Vote and make your voice, your feelings, and most of all, your concerns heard.
